The Challenge

Routimize’s potential customers were grappling with the inefficiencies of manual route planning. Dispatchers relied on spreadsheets, whiteboards, and tacit knowledge to schedule hundreds of deliveries daily. This analog approach was not only time-consuming but highly prone to human error. Without a digital system, it was impossible to account for complex variables like vehicle capacity, specific driver skills, or strict customer delivery windows. Consequently, fleets were often underutilized, and fuel costs were unnecessarily high due to suboptimal routing.

The lack of a centralized digital platform meant there was no real-time visibility into fleet operations. Once a driver left the depot, dispatchers had little control or insight into their progress. This “black box” scenario led to poor customer communication, as accurate ETAs could not be provided. Routimize needed a robust Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to prove that the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) could be solved digitally.

They required a solution that could ingest order data and output optimized routes immediately. The challenge was to build a reliable, user-friendly system from the ground up that could handle the mathematical complexity of VRP while remaining accessible to non-technical dispatch staff and drivers in the field.

What did
Assystant do

Assystant partnered with Routimize to conceptualize and build their inaugural VRP platform from scratch. We focused on delivering a functional, high-impact MVP that addressed the core pain points of manual routing. Our team designed a robust backend architecture capable of processing complex logic and constraints to generate efficient delivery schedules.

We developed a web-based dashboard for dispatchers, providing them with a clear, map-based interface to visualize routes and manage orders. Simultaneously, we built a cross-platform mobile application for drivers. This app replaced paper manifests, giving drivers digital access to their daily schedules and turn-by-turn navigation. The system was designed to be intuitive, ensuring rapid adoption by the workforce.

Our technical execution included:

  • VRP Engine: Built a powerful backend using Django to handle the heavy lifting of route optimization algorithms.

  • Dispatcher Web App: Developed a responsive dashboard using Angular, allowing for easy order management and route visualization.

  • Driver Mobile App: Created a hybrid mobile application using Xamarin, ensuring compatibility across various devices used by drivers.

  • Integration: Established secure APIs to allow seamless data flow between the web dashboard, the mobile app, and the backend engine.
