The Challenge
Personal safety applications need to work reliably under pressure, often when a user cannot safely interact with their phone in an obvious way. Redecam’s concept required the app to secretly send an SOS while simultaneously recording environmental data.
Capturing video, audio, motion sensor data, and GPS data simultaneously, and transmitting it to a remote server and a chosen contact, required careful coordination across multiple device sensors and reliable background data transmission.
Because the application needed to operate discreetly, the user experience had to be designed so the app’s activity would not be obvious to anyone else present, while still functioning dependably in the background.
